Earlston Rhymers have today announced the appointment of John Sale legendary architect Aidan Hume as assistant head coach. Aidan comes with a wealth of experience after making at least 3 appearances off the bench for the rhymers last season as well as famously costing them the 3points that could have taken them up in 3rd place after an administration error. It is hoped however that the 38 year olds background as a referee will be most beneficial to the club after last seasons various acts of indiscipline. Aidan had this to say about his appointment, " Aye its a dream come true for me to take up this position, I've always enjoyed being right behind Rob!" When asked what type of football the new regime are likely to play he replied " We will be playing sexy football, In fact it is an orgy of football, the other team know they are going to get it but they don't know when or where from" Very good!
Work Commences On Upgrading Changing Rooms
It is well known that The Rhymer's have one of the best playing surfaces in Scotland but now they have the facilities to rival that. The dated home and away changing installed to give the players every possible advantage in the quest for C Division glory. It is with regret however that due to size restraints the proposed bar and function room had to be scrapped and so the players will still drink in the White Swan. Below are the photo's of the new look club rooms;

Rhymer's Defeat Yetholm In Season Opener
Earlston Rhymers started their Border Amateur League Division C campaign with a victory over Yetholm. The home team had somewhat surprisingly been the Border Telegraph's second pick for promotion this season and so The Rhymers will take confidence from the 4-2 victory. Goals came from Robert Gourdie x2, Martin Gibson and Craig Bell. view match report
Border Telegraph Division C Pre-view
The Border Telegraph this week published it's annual preview of Border Amateur football and there was some interesting reading to say the least. They have installed Gala United and Yethlom as their favourites for promotion from Division C this year and have also hinted at a successful season for the newly formed Linton Hotspur despite no one having ever seen them play! Earlston Rhymers received no mention in the article and so do not appear to be considered promotion contenders by the experienced sports reporters (and the boy wi the ginger hair that plays for Gala United) at the paper. Manager Robert Gourdie will be hoping that by writing them off the paper will have given the players all the motivation needed to mount a challenge for promotion. To view the article click here
Pre-Season Goes Well
The match against Leithen Rovers signalled the end of a worthwhile pre-season for The Ryhmer's. Positive results and some battling performances against the best Division A had to offer should stand the team in good stead ahead of the new season, defeats to hawick and jedburgh however will be best forgotten! The Rhymer's started with a game against Hawick Waverley away and were soundly beaten 6-1 by the division B champions, this shambolic performance will be put down to lack of match sharpness and the fact that a number of first team regulars were unavailable. Rhymer's bounced back with a good performance in a narrow defeat away to Greenlaw. Earlston had been controlling the match and leading 3-2 before a raft of substitutions unsettled the team and two late goals meant a 4-3 defeat. Pre-season continued with an away trip to the San Siro to meet Gala Rovers, another battling performance saw Rhymers leave with a 2-2 draw, despite being outplayed at times the team showed good work rate and solid defending aswell as some silky football of their own to earn the draw. Yet another away trip this time to Gordon seen The Rhymers again at times play some nice football and they thoroughly deserved a 1-1 draw. Another disappointing performance this time away to Jedburgh was again due to various players missing out and would see the Rhymers suffer a 5-3 defeat. Pre-season was completed with the visit of Leithan Rovers to Runciman Park and despite going down 3-1 the team more than held their own against the former South Cup winners giving them plenty of problems. Manager Robert Gourdie had this to say of his sides pre-season efforts "Overall the boys performed very well in pre-season, with the obvious exception of the results at Hawick and Jed we more than held our own against teams of supposedley higher quality. I was pleased with some of the football we played particularly against Liethen Rovers and I also thought the way in which we defended when under pressure at times was admirable. Not only the performances in games but the dedication shown in training throughout the build up will no doubt stand us in good stead for the season". Top Of The League... We Wish!!!
The Rhymers plummeted to second in the table tonight after yet another administrative error cost them 3points and a club record £5 fine. The Rhymers would have gained promotion last season in third place had three points not have been docked for a similar incident involving the signing of Aidan Hume. Rumour has it certain squad players may have to be let go to cover the costs of the fine. One player said he was "devastated" and that he felt that all the hard work on the pitch counted for "nothing".

Gourdie Resigns After Night Out Scandal!!!
Earlston Rhymers were today rocked by the news that player manager Robert Gourdie has resigned. This leaves the rhymers in the sh*t for Saturdays Collie Cup Final however Gourdie's assistant, Aidan Hume is expected to take temporary charge. Speculation as to why Gourdie has resigned has been rife with many believing that after arriving home at 6am from a team night out all his privileges were removed by his wife. Others believe that the stress and pressures of managing a C division phenomenon have been to much to handle resulting in a reported breakdown. What ever the reasons we at Earlston Rhymers would like to thank Robert for his telling contribution to the team over the last two years.
Final Insult!!!
The Rhymers wait for a trophy continues as they were soundly beaten by a spirited Linton Hotspur side in the Collie Cup final. Despite taking the lead through a Martin Gibson header and dominating the early going the rhymers bottled it and even a late Stevie Gillan goal couldn't inspire them and they deservedly went home with nothing. Worryingly it was also reported that Sid and Gibby were spotted at an under 18's disco in Galashiels later that night, both refused to comment.
Revenge WILL Be Sweet!!!
A mere 7 days after being embarrassed by Linton Hotspur in the Collie Cup Final the Rhymers will have the chance for revenge as they head there on league duty this week. Craig " mmmmm Dinger" Bell is suspended.
Aidan Splashes The Cash!!!
It's no even January yet and temporary manager, former assistant manager Aidan Hume hasn't been in his new post long but he has wasted no time in freshening up an ever depleting Rhymers squad. Released on free transfers have been Nathan Greenfield's and Flash Gordon while Kevin McNeill has went to North Queensland fury on a season long loan. As well as players going out there have been a few new players coming in, all for big money (£3) transfer fees. Johnny Jones and Ewan Robertson have signed from Gala United, Ritchie Rich (real name) has signed from Gala Fairydean and Daniel Barbour has signed from Next Menswear. Aidan said " Since taking over I have been working hard to sign players of real quality to strengthen the squad, I soon found out there were none available so this lot will do!"
